The Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) Esports season has officially begun. The Fall '21 Season is in full swing for six of CUW Esports' titles as competitions kick off next week. The titles include; League of Legends, Rocket League, Super Smash Bros, Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege, and a new team in Valorant. The players and captains are ready to get moving and get to competing.
One of the teams with very high expectations is the Overwatch team. Fresh off a summer bootcamp, the new Overwatch roster is primed and ready. "I've learned that good team synergy matters way more than individual player skill," said Overwatch Team Captain, Nick 'Pectus' Adelmund. In Addition to their training schedule, Overwatch has added more team bonding exercises to their weekly routine to help build team chemistry and make sure everybody is the most confident version of themselves.
After a lost season last Spring semester, there may be no team more excited to get back in a league than the Smash Bros Team. That means no single person is more pumped than Smash Bros Captain DJ 'Daxo' Ford. DJ said, "I feel that we have tons of potential and I really think we have a shot at winning big this year." He also raved about the team's depth as the key to their season success.
The Valorant team is a new addition this year, but that will not keep them from competing as much as the other teams. The team is competing in two different leagues this season, the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC league) and the Maryland Esports Training Arena (META League). Sam 'Nalu' Boehlke has some high expectations for the team this upcoming season. He said, "I want communication and mindset to be our biggest focus, as I think they're keys to our success. Once we have those down, the sky's our limit."
The League of Legends team is also competing in their first season this semester, however, they have been a part of the CUW Esports team since the beginning. This is the first school semester in which they have had a full roster and a consistent league available, so everything is clearly falling into place. Even without previous leagues, the original players have been using all this time to prepare and train to get better and to be ready for the challenge.
The Rocket league team is going into their season with their third-year captain, Austin 'TwoDogLucky' Esterly. Rocket League lost two of their three starters coming into this season, so it will be a fresh start for the team as they get to know each other and build communication.
The Rainbow 6 Siege team is competing in their second season since joining CUW esports. Their previous season surprised most seeing as they had a sporadic start. This season, however, they have had all summer to train and work together to hit this season even stronger at the start. Winning finals is the plan.
