MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team kicked off a lot of regular-season contests this week with the debut of their Halo squad on Tuesday.
The first team to compete was the Call of Duty team. They took on both Carroll and Roosevelt in a best of five-game series with both. In their Carroll matchup, The Falcons lost the first hardpoint map but were able to take the search and destroy map 6-0, the control map 3-2, and the last hardpoint map 250-115. They were led by sophomore Sean Hofstetter (Columbia, Ill.) with 105 eliminations. He added 2:16 of hardpoint time as well. In their matchup with Roosevelt, the Falcons took the first hardpoint map 250-140 as well as the first search and destroy map 6-1. They dropped the control map 2-3, but came back and won the best of five matchups in the second hardpoint game with a score of 250-148. Cade Jahns (Ripon, Wis.) led the Falcons with 125 eliminations and 1:36 hardpoint time.
In the first week of NECC play, the Valorant team took on Marian. The Falcons were defeated 0-2 in this best of three matchups with game scores of 11-13 and 7-13. The Falcons were led by freshman Luke Bigalk (Chula Vista, Calif.) with 39 eliminations and seven assists.
The Call of Duty Academy team split a pair of matchups with Buena Vista and Maverick on Tuesday. In the Buena Vista matchup, the Falcons took the 3-0 victory with a hardpoint score of 250-13, a search and destroy score of 6-0, and a control score of 3-0. The Falcons were led by junior Chase Coots (Round Rock, Texas) with 59 eliminations. In their matchup with Maverick, the Falcons fell in three games with final scores of 167-250, 1-6, and 0-3.
In its first-ever competition, the Halo squad took on Drury and Akron in a doubleheader. The Falcons scored their first win of the season with a forfeit win over Drury. In the Akron matchup, the Falcons were defeated 0-3 with a capture the flag score of 0-3, a slayer score of 36-50, and an oddball score of 0-2. "Historical day for the program with the first-ever Halo game in program history," Said head coach Lewis Smith. "That was a win for us. We felt those nerves some, but know we can grow from here."
The Falcons look to compete in the back half of the week with some key matchups ahead.
