No. 17 Softball and Rain Drench WLC

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The 17th-ranked Falcons continued their rivalry on Wednesday afternoon with rain. The Falcons were able to claim a 12-2 victory in game one to improve to 21-3 and 9-2 in the NACC before the rain paused game two.

The scoring started on Wednesday with a single from senior Kelsey Bollon (Orangeville, Ill.) to right field that scored freshman Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) in the first inning.

Freshman Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) then knocked an infield single that scored Bollon.

Junior Ashley Zappa (Zion, Ill.) closed the first-inning scoring that moved junior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) across home plate.

The Warriors put a dent in the lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning. That was quickly erased with a single to center field from Claudia Utz in the second inning that scored Jess Pozezinski and sophomore Madison Wheat (Coweta, Okla.).

In the third inning, junior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.) had a sacrifice fly to score Ashley Zappa and Claudia Utz blasted the ball into the gap in right-center field to add Jess Pozezinski and Madison Wheat to the scoreboard.

The Warriors added another run in the fifth inning, but the Concordia defense stood tall and got out of a bases-loaded jam. The CUW defense left eight Warriors on the base path on Wednesday.

The birds blasted four more runs onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning.

Madison Wheat started the spree when she whacked a double into left-center field and scored junior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.).

A single from Jess Pozezinski to left field scored Wheat.

Kelsey Bollon then scored Pozezinski on a single to left field.

Claudia Utz scored the final run with a single to left field that scored Sydney Erdmann.

Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) bounced WLC with three strikeouts in another quality start. Freshman Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) had a strikeout in an inning in the circle.

The Falcons were blistering hot at the plate and had 19 hits in six innings. Not only did Claudia Utz keep the Warriors glued onto their bases, but she also smacked a game-high four hits and five RBI. Ashley Zappa was also a perfect four-for-four at the plate.

Game two will be continued at a later date due to rain.

The Falcons lead 1-0 after Claudia Utz crushed the ball to center field in the first inning that scored Jess Pozezinski from second base.

The Falcons look to protect the nest on Thursday against Marian.
