Women's Track and Field Starts 2023-24 Campaign

RIPON, Wis. – Saturday morning saw the CUW women's track and field team start their 2023-24 indoor campaign at the Ripon Winter Open.

In the meet, the Falcons took fifth and scored 42 points, while UW-Oshkosh took first place with 228 points.

In the 60-meter dash, senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) took fifth and added four team points for CUW, running a time of 8.27 seconds.

The Falcons also experienced success in the 60-meter hurdles, as junior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) took second with a time of 9.24 seconds, and freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) took fifth in her first collegiate meet, finishing with a time of 9.87 seconds. Combined, Hielscher and Eilertson contributed 12 points to CUW's total.

In the 300-meter dash, senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) earned the Falcons four points after taking fifth place with a time of 45.86. Behind Zahorik was freshman Lorin Laney (Columbus, Ohio), who took 12th place with a time of 48.71 seconds. 

Behind Laney and finishing 12th in the 300-meter dash was Ema Williquette (Jackson, Wis.), who registered a time of 49.83 seconds, while Kaitlynn Sabish took 14th at 56.42 seconds.

Meanwhile, the high jump saw the Falcons take home 11 points as Maya Hielscher took third in the event, clearing a height of 1.55 meters, which earned the Falcons six points. Scoring five points for the Falcons and in fourth place was Emma Eilertson, with a mark of 1.50 meters. 

Also in the high jump was freshman Nina Alft (Kimberly, Wis.), who cleared a height of 1.35 meters and took 10th place, while senior Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.) took 11th, also with a height of 1.35 meters. 

Sophomores Amber Fietzer (Manawa, Wis.) and Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) represented CUW in the triple jump and totaled five team points. Fetzer took sixth place, with a distance of 9.97 meters, while Kotula was seventh, with her best mark at 9.80 meters.

Meanwhile, in the long jump, Sabrina Moore took seventh after leaping a distance of 5.08 meters.

Pole vault saw sophomore Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) tack on four points for Concordia as she took fourth after clearing a height of 3.03 meters. 

Also in the pole vault was Kate Kotula, who took 10th in the event with a height of 2.73 meters, while freshman Caitlyn Weitzel (Fallston, Md.) cleared a height of 2.58 meters in her collegiate debut.  

In the throwing pit, senior Jamie Maas (West Bend, Wis.) led the flock in the weight throw, taking 14th place, with her furthest mark recorded at 10.09 meters. Right behind Maas was sophomore Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.), who threw a distance of 10.03 meters. 

Also in the weight throw were freshman Morgan Feuker (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) and Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis). Fueker recorded a throw distance of 8.97 meters, while Mursch threw a distance of 8.90 meters.

In the shot put, Morgan Feuker led the Blue and White with her furthest mark at 9.97 meters and took 12th place. In 14th was Jamie Maas, who threw a distance of 8.98 meters. Maya Hielscher, Kailey Ramaker, Bryanna Mursch, and Nina Alft also recorded throws. 

The Falcons will enjoy a break and resume competition on January 13th at the Carthage Firebird First meet.
