RHINELANDER, Wis. – The 16th-ranked Falcons posted a perfect weekend at the Wisconsin-Stevens Point UTC Invite. The Concordia Wisconsin softball team improved to 4-0 on the young season with a 7-2 victory over Wisconsin-Stout and a 4-1 victory over St. Scholastica.
The Falcons threw the first punch on Sunday against Stout with a two-run home run from sophomore Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) that also scored senior Sydney Erdmann (Geneva, Ill.).
Stout struck back with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game.
In the top of the second inning, senior Gabbi Gaziano (Beloit, Wis.) scored on an error to give the Falcons the lead.
The bat of sophomore Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) scored Jess Pozezinski in the third inning.
A single from Gabbi Gaziano then scored senior Abby Kerrins (Cullom, Ill.) in the sixth inning.
The birds scored two more runs in the seventh inning, starting with a double from Jess Pozezinski that scored Sydney Erdmann and a single from sophomore Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) that landed Jess Pozezinski on home plate.
Senior Gina Followell (Romeoville, Ill.) finished with eight strikeouts in the victory.
Jess Pozezinski led all players with three hits in game one.
Sydney Erdmann and senior Claudia Utz (Lockport, Ill.) both had a stolen base against The Blue Devils.
The Falcons started the scoring early against St. Scholastica with a two-run home run from Claudia Utz in the first inning that scored Sydney Erdmann.
In the third inning, Sydney Erdmann crossed home plate on a fielder's choice, she then singled in the fifth inning to score junior Emily Walters (Waupun, Wis.).
The Saints scored their lone run of the game in the sixth inning.
Sydney Erdmann finished with a game-high three hits. Erdmann and Emily Walters also both stole a base against the Saints.
Senior Nicki Becker (Brodhead, Wis.) had seven strikeouts in the victory.
The Falcons are the only team to go 4-0 at the UTC Invite, Marian also went undefeated at 2-0 on the weekend.
