MEQUON, Wis. – It was all Concordia on Sunday afternoon in the season opener against the Bulldogs of Adrian. The Concordia Wisconsin acrobatics & tumbling team opens the season with a 1-0 record with the 214.435 to 86.475 victory.
"It was fun to be able and compete in front of our fans today," said head coach Sarah Koenig. "We were able to take away a lot of positives from today. We are excited to be able to compete again at home next weekend."
The Falcons jumped out to an early lead with 31.100 points in the compulsory event. The Blue and White scored 9.500 points in the pyramid heat and 9.550 points in the toss heat.
Concordia added onto the lead with 23.85 points in the acro event. CUW scored 9.200 points in the seven-element heat with senior Paityn Taormina (Geneva, Ill.), junior Ellen Marie Sanders (Joppa, Md.), senior Eliana Schmit (Germantown, Wis.) and senior Haleigh Komprood (Janesville, Wis.).
The birds continued to add to the lead with 24.00 points in the pyramid event. The high water mark came in the open pyramid with the squad of Paityn Taormina, junior Madisen Arendt (Waukesha, Wis.), Haleigh Komprood and Eliana Schmit.
The toss event elevated the lead after 24.60 points were added. Paityn Taormina, freshman Cadia Sanders (Joppa, Md.), Eliana Schmit, Ellen Marie Sanders and senior Amanda Owens (Stevens Point, Wis.) secured 9.200 points in the open toss.
The tumbling event saw the Falcons fly past Adrian with 43.225 points. Paityn Taormina tallied 8.325 points in the open pass. Ellen Marie Sanders snagged 7.850 points in the six-element pass and sophomore Ainslee Taylor (Alto, Mich.) had 7.750 points in the aerial pass.
The Falcons finished the day with 67.660 points in the team events.
The Blue and White posted a high score in 19 of the 20 heats on Sunday.
The Falcons return to action on Sunday against the Thunder of Trine.
