Softball Steamrolls Saints and Gators

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Falcons took care of business with a pair of five-inning victories on Tuesday in Florida. The Falcons started the day with a 9-0 victory over Allegheny and ended the day with an 8-0 victory under the stars against Emmanuel. The Tuesday sweep sends the Falcons to 4-2 on the young season.

Junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.) started the scoring on Tuesday with a well-placed bunt single that allowed senior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) to sneak past the tag at home plate.

The Falcons broke down the doors with eight runs in the fourth inning. The Birds sent 11 batters to the plate in the fourth frame.

Jasmine Freeze started the carousel with a single to shortstop.

Sophomore Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) reached on a fielder's choice with a blast to second base.

A fielding error allowed Kaitlyn Way to reach first base and the Falcons made the Gators pay for the play that should have ended the inning.

Taylor Jacobson walloped the ball to right field for a triple that scored Jenna Lischka from second base and sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) from first base.

Sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) then tripled to right field to score Jacobson.

Senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) then joined in the triple train to right field to plate Shadoski.

That was the first time in program history that the Falcons had back-to-back-to-back triples and only the third time with three triples in a contest.

Junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) had a single to left field that landed Pozezinski safely across home plate.

Senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) didn't get a triple, but a double to right field was good enough to score Statz from first base.

Jasmine Freeze returned to the plate and smacked the ball out of the park over the fence in left-center field to score the two-run home run with Bloyer to end the scoring.

The giant dill pickles might have been a fan favorite on a hot day under the Florida sun, but the Falcons were also able to find themselves out of some defensive pickles to preserve the shutout.

In the first inning, the Gators had the first two runners reach base but a pair of fly outs and an out to Jess Pozezinski ended the first threat of the day.

The Gators had the first two batters of the fourth inning also reach, but after a strikeout for Jasmine Freeze and a pair of foul flyouts iced the threat.

The leadoff runner reached for Alleghany but was caught attempting to steal third base but Megan Bloyer sent a laser to junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) to end that and a flyout ended the game after five innings.

Concordia cooked up 11 hits in game one with Jasmine Freeze leading the game with three.

Taylor Jacobson had a career-best three RBI in the Gator hunt.

In the circle, Jasmine Freeze iced the Gators with only four hits and two strikeouts.

After a lengthy wait, the Falcons struck early against the Saints.

Jess Pozezinski started the game with a double to left-center field and after a pair of wild pitches, she safely walked back into the dugout with a run.

A double steal worked as planned in the second inning with Rylee DuVal taking second and Jenna Lischka sneaking across home plate.

Emmanuel threatened in the bottom half of the inning with two runners in scoring position but sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) sent a flyout to centerfield to sink the Sinks.

The Blue and Gold threatened again in the fourth inning, but a ground out to Rylee Duval ended the inning.

The Falcons feasted in the fifth inning with eight runs.

A single up the middle of the infield for Jasmine Freeze allowed Jess Pozezinski to score from second base.

Kaitlyn Way whacked the ball through the right side of the infield to score Megan Bloyer from second base.

Rylee DuVal joined the triple party with a missile to right-center field to send home senior KianaMarie Taccad (Chicago, Ill.) and Jasmine Freeze.

Triples continued to be contagious when Jenna Lischka tripled to right field to score Rylie DuVal.

The scoring was finished with a single up the middle for senior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) to score Jenna Lischka.

Emmanuel tried to extend the game with a runner in scoring position but a strikeout and a ground out ended the evening after five innings.

Emma Shellstrom was sensational again in the circle to earn the victory with two strikeouts.

Rylie DuVal led the contest with three hits and two RBI.

The Falcons return to action on Thursday against Adrian and Neumann.
