MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team faced off against one of the perennial powers in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference on Saturday at Aurora. The Spartans snapped the Falcons' nine-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory. The Falcons bounced back with a 13-8 victory in game two to move to 17-7 on the year and 8-2 in the NACC.
The Falcons threatened in the third inning with a pair of hits from sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) and junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.), but a play at the plate ended the inning.
Aurora took advantage of a leadoff walk in the fifth inning and scored on a wild pitch.
Sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) had a strikeout in game one in the circle.
The Falcons exploded in the first inning of game two with eight runs.
Senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) started the scoring with a single into the gap in right-center field that scored senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) from second base.
Senior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) then had a single through the right side of the infield that scored Nora Statz from second base.
Junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) then sent the ball over the fence to plate Freeze and Bloyer.
Jess Pozezinski smacked a double into the gap in right-center field on a ground-rule double that allowed sophomore Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) to score.
Nora Statz sent a spicy shot to shortstop that scored sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.).
Megan Bloyer scored the final run of the inning on a single up the middle that plated Jess Pozezinski.
The Spartans took a bite out of the lead with a four-run first inning.
In the second inning, Jenna Shadoski had a single through the right side of the infield that showcased senior Adrianna Martinez's (Chicago, Ill.) speed as she scored from second base.
Jess Pozezinski scored Jenna Lischka on a little poke of the bat with a single through the left side of the infield.
Aurora cut into the lead with another run in the third inning.
The Birds got the run back in the fourth inning, after Jenna Shadoski started the inning with a double, Jess Pozezinski doubled to centerfield to score Shadoski.
The Spartans struck again in the fifth inning to trim the Concordia lead to 11-6.
Jess Pozezinski smashed the ball out of the park for a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Megan Bloyer joined the home run party in the sixth inning to add to the lead.
The Spartans scored two runs in the seventh inning, but they could not catch the Falcons.
Sophomore Kylie Van de Loo (Menasha, Wis.) earned the victory in the circle. Sophomore Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) had two strikeouts on the afternoon.
The Blue and White had 21 hits in game two. Jess Pozezinski had five hits in five at-bats. She is now tied for the program record for career doubles with 47.
The Falcons return home on Sunday and will host Marian.
