SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team fought hard on Tuesday in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Lakeland. The Falcons took game one, 11-5, and rallied late, but lost game two, 12-13. The Falcons are now 26-10 on the year and 17-5 in the NACC.
The Falcons struck first in the first inning when junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) sent a spicy shot to third base that was too hot to handle, and senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) scored.
In the second inning, senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) had a hot shot to second base that plated junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.).
The Muskies took advantage of some plays in the third inning and took a 3-2 lead.
The Falcons responded with four runs in the fourth inning.
Sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) started the spree with a single to left field that scored sophomore Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.).
Megan Bloyer placed a single to right field and Jess Pozezinski scored.
Junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) had a blast to second base that allowed Jenna Shadoski to score.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Way (Blaine, Minn.) had a single through the left side of the infield that allowed Jenna Shadoski to score.
In the fifth inning, Jenna Shadoski had a rare infield double as the ball dropped onto the hardened ground and Jess Pozezinski and Jenna Lischka scored on the play.
Shadoski then scored on a Megan Bloyer single just out of the reach of the centerfielder.
Lakeland added a run in the fifth inning.
In the sixth inning, Taylor Jacobson singled up the middle to score Rylie DuVal and Nora Statz struck again in the seventh inning with a ball to second base that scored Jess Pozezinski.
Sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) pitched the whole game and finished with five strikeouts in the victory.
Jenna Shadoski had four hits in game one.
The Falcons had a great start to game two and jumped out to a 5-0 lead.
Nora Statz started things off with a grounder to shortstop in the first inning that scored Jess Pozezinski.
In the second inning, Jess Pozezinski had a sacrifice fly that allowed Taylor Jacobson to safely score.
CUW added three more runs in the third inning.
Taylor Jacobson singled through the left side of the infield to score Megan Bloyer, and then senior Adrianna Martinez (Chicago, Ill.) singled to center field to get Taylor Jacobson and Rylie DuVal home.
The Muskies scored thrice in the third inning to cut into the Concordia lead.
Megan Bloyer responded with a double into the gap in left-center to send in Jenna Shadoski.
We will fast forward to the sixth inning, where the Falcons scored six runs to cut the deficit to a run.
Rylie DuVal started the comeback with a single to center field that scored Jenna Shadoski.
A bases-loaded walk of Taylor Jacobson allowed junior Julia Moker (Hubertus, Wis.) to trot across home plate.
Adrianna Martinez had a ball to shortstop that scored Nora Statz.
Kaitlyn Way singled to left field to plate Taylor Jacobson and Rylie DuVal.
Jess Pozezinski finished the scoring with a triple into the gap in right-center field.
Megan Bloyer led game two with four hits and gunned down both stolen base attempts on the day again.
Senior Jasmine Freeze had three strikeouts in the start.
The Falcons close the regular season on Sunday against Concordia Chicago. Heading into the final stretch, CUW can finish anywhere in the top four of the NACC.
