Falcons Complete Squig Converse Invite with Strong Distance Performances

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track and field team opened competition at the Squig Converse Invite on Friday, hosted by UW–Whitewater.
 
SATURDAY
Senior Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) led CUW on the track, winning the mile in dominant fashion. Van Grinsven crossed the line in 5:16.57, finishing more than 13 seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Junior Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) also competed in the event, placing 10th with a new personal best time of 5:45.96.
 
Junior Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.) recorded a runner-up finish in the 3000m, coming just two seconds shy of first place. Ahrens clocked a new PR of 10:04.58, while senior Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) posted a season-best time of 10:37.13.
 
In the sprints, sophomore Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.) and freshman Sophia Wunderlich (Greenville, Wis.) advanced to the finals of their respective events. Read placed fifth in the 60m dash prelims with a time of 8.06 before improving her mark in the finals to finish fifth overall. Wunderlich followed a similar path in the 60m hurdles, taking fifth in the prelims at 9.61 and cutting her time in the finals.
 
Read also competed in the high jump, placing 13th with a clearance of 1.52m, while junior Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) finished 15th after clearing 1.47m.
 
In the long jump, sophomore Amiyah Jackson (Beaver Dam, Wis.) recorded a season-best mark of 5.00m to place 14th. Senior Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) finished 15th, setting a new personal best at 4.85m.
 
Kotula also posted a season-best performance in the pole vault, clearing 3.15m to place 16th. Junior Caitlyn Weitzel (Fallston, Md.) added another season-best effort for the Falcons with a clearance of 3.00m.
 
Junior Paige Schreiber (Dousman, Wis.) had a strong showing in the throws. Schreiber set a new personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 11.88m, placing 33rd, and followed with a season-best throw of 10.62m in the shot put to take 25th. Sophomore Makenna Herbrand (Fond du Lac, Wis.) placed 19th in the shot put with a new PR of 10.10m, while junior Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis.) led the Falcons in the weight throw at 12.31m, finishing 27th.
 
FRIDAY  
Freshman Lydia Boehlke (High Ridge, Mo.) represented the Falcons in the pentathlon. Boehlke's top performance came in the shot put, where she threw 7.89m to place 10th and score 392 points. She also earned 621 points in the 60m hurdles with a time of 10.50. Boehlke finished the pentathlon in 11th place overall with 2,252 points.
 
The Falcons will return to action next Saturday, Feb. 14, at the Dick Hendricks Invite in Ripon, Wis. Hosted by Ripon College, events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Willmore Center.
