RIVER FOREST, Ill. — The Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team put together a dominant performance Wednesday afternoon, shutting out Concordia University Chicago, 3-0, in NACC action.
The Falcons wasted little time finding their footing, as Jacey Read opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Read collected a pass from Gabi Farraj and found the back of the net to give CUW an early 1-0 advantage.
Concordia Wisconsin continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, eventually doubling its lead in the 25th minute. Christine Long finished off a scoring opportunity with assists from Lanie Czerkies and Gabbie Hetzel, sending the Falcons into halftime with a 2-0 advantage.
CUW continued its offensive attack after the break, and Read struck again in the 61st minute. The sophomore midfielder connected on her second goal of the afternoon, this time assisted by
Grace Brown, to push the Falcon lead to 3-0.
The three-goal cushion proved more than enough for the CUW defense, which held Concordia Chicago scoreless for the remainder of the match.
Kara Claussner made two saves during the first half before Aubrey Johnson took over in goal for the second half and added one save as the Falcons recorded their shutout.
Read led the Falcons offensively with two goals on six shots, including three shots on goal. Long added a goal, while Farraj, Brown, Czerkies and Hetzel each recorded an assist. CUW finished the afternoon with a 15-8 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on target.
