WHITEWATER, Wis. – Three student-athletes from the Concordia Wisconsin women's track and field team competed in the 5,000-meter run Friday evening at the Midwest Elite Invitational, hosted by UW-Whitewater. Today the meet featured only the men's and women's 5,000m races, with 98 competitors lining up across five heats on the 200-meter track on the women's side.
Competing in the event for just the second time this season, junior
Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.) placed fourth overall with a time of 17:18.86. She averaged approximately 41.55 seconds per 200-meter split, finishing just three seconds shy of her personal best set earlier this season at the UWO Early Bird & Multi in December.
Senior
Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) ran in the same heat as Ahrens and completed the 25 laps in 18:52.46. Senior
Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) competed in an earlier heat and finished 77th overall with a time of 19:37.85. It marked the first 5,000m race of the season for both Arvis and Poehlman.
The Falcons return to action Saturday at the Dick Hendricks Invite in Ripon, Wis. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the Willmore Center.
