MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team played on the newly turfed Catalyst Park field for the first time on Wednesday afternoon. The Falcons rallied to defeat the Duhawks in game one, 4-3, before falling in game two, 2-13. The Falcons are now 10-6 on the year.
The first three inning were a pitchers dual in game one, with the lone jolt of offense as a first inning triple foe sophomore Anya Weiler (Hudson, Wis.).
A leadoff walk for senior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) sparked the offense for the Falcons in the fourth inning. Freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) scored DuVal on a double to left field.
Keiper then scored off the bat of senior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) who singled to left field to plate Keiper from second base.
Concordia threatened again with the bases loaded in the fifth inning but could not connect.
The Duhawk bats came alive in the sixth inning and scored three runs to take a late lead.
The Falcons showed no panic and bounced back in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) placed a single to center field to tie the game with freshman Meredith Cann (Naperville, Ill.) crossing home plate.
Senior Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.) then scored the game winning run with a well-placed sacrifice bunt that allowed senior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) to score.
Junior Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) came in during the seventh inning and locked down the Duhawks for a 1-2-3 inning to earn the save.
Faith Keiper was phenomenal in the circle and had six strikeouts in the victory.
Maggie Plahmer led the game with two hits.
Loras erupted for 10 runs in the first inning of game two and added two more in the second inning.
The Falcons kept fighting on Wednesday and Jenna Lischka started the third inning with a double into the gap in left-center and then scored off the bat of Julia Moker.
In the fifth inning, Julia Moker smacked a double down the left-field line and scored Hope Hughes from second base.
The Falcons look to bounce back on Saturday when they return to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play against Concordia Chicago.
