CUW Sits Fourth, Fifth Through 36 Holes in Florida

BRADENTON, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's golf team completed its second round at the New College Spring Invitational on Wednesday. Hosted by New College of Florida at The River Club, the tournament features eight teams, with both New College and CUW entering "A" and "B" squads.
 
After 36 holes, the Falcons' "A" team sits in fourth place with a two-round total of 689 (345-344), while the "B" team ranks fifth at 756 (381-375).
 
Dylan Smith leads CUW individually in 10th place at +18 (79-83). He recorded two birdies in Wednesday's round, including one on the opening hole for the second consecutive day.
 
Ray Baldus added three birdies to his scorecard and is tied for 14th at +22 (80-86). Jack MacGillis climbed one spot in the standings after carding an 86 in round two and now sits 18th overall at +31 (89-86).
 
TUESDAY
The "A" team lineup included sophomores Dylan Smith (Amherst, Wis.), Ray Baldus (Mayville, Wis.), and Tyler Klett (Paw Paw, Mich.), and freshmen Jack MacGillis (Plymouth, Wis.), Grant Hamm (Slinger, Wis.). Representing the "B" team was junior Julian Styer, senior McCarthy Clark (Chicago, Ill.), and freshmen Kyle Smith (Davenport, Iowa), Jack Kallsen (Waterford, Mich.), and Caden Buenz (Elmhurst, Ill.). Senior Dominic Murano (Milwaukee, Wis.) competed as an individual.
 
Dylan Smith leads the Falcons and is tied for fifth overall at 7-over-par (79). He recorded two birdies on the front nine to sit just +1 at the turn before battling through a tougher back nine.
 
Baldus is right behind his teammate in a tie for sixth after carding an 8-over 80, highlighted by a birdie on the 13th hole. MacGillis also cracked the top 20, tying for 19th with a 17-over 89. He collected two birdies during his round, both coming on the back nine.
The Falcons return to the course for one final round of 18 hole tomorrow to complete their spring break trip.
