Comeback Falls Short for Softball

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team wrapped up spring break play on Friday against Adrian. The Falcons battled, but fell to the Bulldogs, 5-7. Concordia closes spring break with a 5-3 record, 7-4 including varsity reserve. The Falcons are now 7-5 on the season.

The Falcons were behind the eight ball early with Adrian scoring five runs in the first inning.

The comeback started in the second inning when junior Lydia Trudell (New Berlin, Wis.) singled to right field to score senior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.).  A spicy shot from senior Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.) then scored Jenna Lischka.

Adrian added another run in the top of the third inning, but CUW responded with senior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) smacking a double into the gap in left-center field to score sophomore Anya Weiler (Hudson, Wis.).

The Falcons creeped even closer with two more runs. Junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) doubled into the gap in right-center to plate Lydia Trudell and Julia Moker later scored on a passed ball.

The Bulldogs added another run in the fifth inning to pushed the lead to 7-5.

Lydia Trudell led the Falcons with two hits.

In the circle, junior Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) had two strikeouts, while junior Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) added one more and freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) had three strikeouts.

The Falcons will fly north and open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play at Dominican on March 21.
