KENOSHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin women's track and field team competed in rainy conditions at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Thursday. Hosted by Carthage, the meet featured eight teams, with the Falcons finishing fifth overall with 35 points.
Freshman
Sophia Wunderlich (Greenville, Wis.) was the lone Falcon to compete on the track, braving the conditions in the 100-meter hurdles. Wunderlich placed second with a time of 16.72.
The pole vault was moved indoors to Carthage's indoor track and field facility due to the weather. Junior
Caitlyn Weitzel (Fallston, Md.) and senior
Kate Kotula (Wyomissing, Pa.) finished second and third, respectively, with both clearing 3.40 meters for personal bests. Weitzel secured second place by clearing the height on her second attempt, while Kotula claimed third after clearing it on her third attempt.
In the throwing events, sophomore
Amiyah Jackson (Beaver Dam, Wis.) captured first place in the javelin with a mark of 28.21 meters on her fourth attempt.
Sophomore
Makenna Herbrand (Fond du Lac, Wis.) recorded the top finishes for the Falcons in both the discus and hammer throw. She placed 10th in the discus with a throw of 30.52 meters and followed with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw at 34.84 meters. Junior
Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis.) finished just behind her teammate in ninth place in the hammer with a mark of 33.66 meters.
Mursch also set a personal best in the shot put, recording a throw of 10.46 meters to place 11th.
The Falcons will return to action next Friday at the Beloit Relays. Hosted by Beloit College, field events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., with running events to follow at 6 p.m. at the Strong Stadium Complex in Beloit, Wisconsin.
