WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team was back in action on Monday evening with a pair of non-conference games at Carroll. The two teams split the day with the Pioneers taking game one, 3-0, with the Falcons bouncing back with a 9-1 victory in game two.
Senior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) had the first hit of the game with a single to right field in the first inning.
The Pioneers scored all three of their runs in the first inning in game one.
Concordia did not have a base runner until senior Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.) was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Anya Weiler (Hudson, Wis.) started the comeback in the seventh inning with a single to center field but it was not enough.
Junior Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.) did not allow a walk in the circle and finished with three strikeouts.
The Falcons wasted no time bouncing back in game two.
Junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) started the game with a single to right field and then junior Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) pushed her to second with a smack to third base. The Jennas then both stole a ase to move to second and third. Rylie DuVal cleared the base path of Jennas with a double to left field. Anya Weiler then whacked a single to left field that scored DuVal from second base.
The Pioneers earned a run back in the bottom of the first inning.
Carroll threatened again in the second inning with the bases loaded but Rylie DuVal threw home to freshman Hope Hughes (Joliet, Ill.) for a play at the plate to end the threat.
The Falcons elevated the lead in the fourth inning when a wild pitch scored sophomore Natalie Kinney (Roscoe, Ill.). Rylie DuVal cleared the bases again with a double to right field that scored Jenna Shadoski and Jenna Lischka.
In the fifth inning, Natalie Kinney crushed the ball over the fence in centerfield for her first collegiate home run that also scored Nora Statz.
The Pioneers tried to respond in the bottom half of the inning and tried to steal second base but Hope Hughes gunned down the would-be base stealer to end the inning.
Freshman Faith Keiper (Tomball, Texas) kept the Pioneers quiet with only two hits against and three strikeouts.
The Birds added another run in the sixth inning with a single to third base for Anya Weiler to send home Jenna Shadoski and extend the inning.
Junior Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) came in for the sixth inning and posted a 1-2-3 inning that started with a strikeout swinging.
Anya Weiler led game two with three hits, while Jenna Shadoski and Jenna Lischka both had one stolen base.
