Breaks Go the Way of Benedictine in NACC Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team opened postseason play on Friday night at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Softball Tournament. The Falcons battled the whole game, but fell in eight innings, 5-6.

Benedictine was able to capitalize on a Concordia error and score a run in the first inning.

The Falcons quickly responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) cleared the bases with a triple into the gap in right field that scored junior Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) and senior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.). Plahmer then scored when junior Isa Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) singled to left field.

The Eagles tied the game with two runs in the second inning and elevated the lead to 4-1 after the top of the fourth inning with a run in the third and fourth inning.

Senior Julia Moker (Richfield, Wis.) started the comeback in the fourth inning with a single to center field that scored freshman Meredith Cann (Naperville, Ill.) for second base.

The Falcons needed a run in the seventh inning to tie the game and they received that when Rylie DuVal smacked a single to left field and Jenna Shadoski easily scored.

The Eagles scored a run on a two-out single in the eighth inning.

The Falcons once again rallied but a diving catch saved the day for the Eagles.

The duo of Jenna Shadoski and junior Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) had a game-high two hits. Jenna Shadoski also stole two bases.

The Eagles advance in the winner's bracket and will face Dominican for a spot in the finals.

The Falcons will face Lakeland at 11 and look to continue the fun at 4:00 to claim the final spot in the finals.
