Falcons Falter Against Pioneers

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team (3-5, 2-1 NACC) fell to the UW-Platteville Pioneers (4-2-3, 0-0 WIAC) 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Fitting Field.

The Pioneers got on the board first when senior forward Jess Morawski fired the ball into the back of the net from just outside the box in the 20th minute, giving her team a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons' defense held strong in the remainder of the first half, successfully defending 10 other shots. Senior goalkeeper Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.) recorded a season-high eight saves in the first frame alone.

In the second half, UW-Platteville's offense broke open the match. Senior forward Sarah Liljestrand slotted one into the top left side of the net in the 60th minute to double her team's lead.

In the 79th minute, freshman forward Morgan Hospadarsky broke away in the box and found the back of the net to cap off the scoring for the Pioneers.

Concordia Wisconsin was unable to respond in the remaining minutes, suffering their fifth loss of the season.
