Men’s Hockey blasts Bethel on Black Friday

BLAINE, Minn. – The CUW men's hockey team took care of business in Minnesota on Friday night with a 6-0 victory at Bethel. The victory pushes CUW to 4-2-1 on the season and sinks the Royals to 2-5-1.

"Overall it was a great game from the team tonight," said head coach Jasen Wise. "We took advantage of the opportunities presented to us and capitalized on our scoring chances. It was a great efforts from the boys, we are looking to bring the same intensity tomorrow night at Stevens Point."

The Falcons struck early and often on Friday, junior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) lit the lamp 49 seconds into the game, with assists from senior Dante Hahn (Victoria, B.C.) and junior Nick Guiney (Victoria, B.C.).

At the 8:57 mark of the first period, senior Josh Adkins (Victoria, B.C.) added to the scoring with a shot off passes from sophomore Bryce Fisk (Brown Deer, Wis.) and sophomore Peter Kapak (Red Deer, Alta.).

Dante Hahn snuck the puck past the Bethel keeper in the first period off a pass from Nick Guerra.

The Falcons added two more goals in the second period from senior Jim Pearson (Ashton, Ont.) and freshman Brandon Picard (Montreal, Que.). Junior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) and Josh Adkins added the assists on the Pearson goal, while junior Braydon Barker (Red Deer, Alta.) and sophomore Luc Keuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) tallied assists on the Picard goal.

Freshman Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.) closed the scoring at the 8:08 mark of the third period, with Josh Adkins and freshman Lucas Hefty (Oregon, Wis.) getting credited for the assists.

The goal was the first collegiate goal for Way at Concordia.

Sophomore Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) earned his second shutout victory of the year with 27 saves on Friday.

The Falcons improve to 2-1-0 on the year against MIAC schools, with the other victory coming in the season opener against Concordia Moorhead. CUW also moves to 10-0-1 all-time against Bethel.

CUW held a 38-27 advantage in shots on Friday, with Braydon Barker and Alex Way leading the flock with five shots.

The six goals on Friday, are the second most in the season, with the Falcons landing seven goals at St. Scholastica.

The CUW defense killed off all three penalties on Friday night.

The Blue and White continue the road trip at No. 6 Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday evening.
