It was back and forth all afternoon, but Edgewood (1-3) wound up
on top in a thrilling NAC opener when the Falcons could not get a
good look at the basket in the closing seconds. Concordia got the
ball back trailing by two with 11 seconds remaining but solid Eagle
defense foiled the final effort.
Things had looked so good for CUW (3-2) over the first four
minutes as transition baskets paved the way to an early 15- 7
lead.
Just like the rest of the game, however, no lead for either side
lasted very long and soon it was 15-15. Edgewood held a 38 -37
margin at the break and each squad had a 6 point cushion at some
point in the second half.
CUW got off a dozen more shots, but half a dozen missed second
half lay-ins added up to 9-29 shooting down the stretch.
Pearl Wallace (9-11 from the floor) led Concordia with 18 points
but played less than 15 minutes and was hampered by constant foul
trouble. Without her, the Falcons were mismatched inside and lost
the battle of the boards 39- 36.
Three other Falcons hit double figures but nobody could stop
Edgewood's Brianna Droessler who led all scorers with 21.
