Nobody could have predicted Saturday night's dominating Falcon
performance with a straight face. The opponent was perennial
champion Seward (17-6) and one might have guessed that every ounce
of CUW energy had been spent in a heart-stopping one point win over
CU-Chicago the previous night.
So much for prognostication!
Does 60% game-long field goal accuracy sound pretty good?
Have you ever heard of a team making 14 of 17 shots from beyond
the 3 point line?
Shawn Cassidy's team was absolutely brilliant offensively from
beginning to end- finding the open shooter, and tearing apart the
Seward defense inside and out.
David Lopez, usually allotted spot guard duty off the bench,
ignited the CUW fire by hitting all 4 of his first half shots,
including 3 of 3 from distance, in 15 minutes of superb play.
Mitchell Schneider, the Tourney MVP, was 6-8 from the field;
Skip Newton-Kemp (4-4); all tourney pick Kyle Barth connected on 6
of 11; and so it went.
A total of 54 Falcon shots were directed hopefully toward the
rim, and 32 of them fell through on this night- straight out of
the movies!
Nebraska-Seward shot a respectable 47% and turned the ball over
only 12 times against Falcon pressure, but it was simply CUW's
night.
Hail to the CIT champions!
