Naperville, Illinois -
The Concordia
men's soccer team saw their nine-game unbeaten streak come to a
close on Monday night, falling 2-1 at North Central College in
Naperville, Illinois.
Despite jumping in
front 1-0 off a goal by Zach Lemler (assisted by Kyle Sytsma) in
the 15th minute, the Falcons saw the Cardinals rally to
tie the game just over three minutes later when Charlie Stanke
found the back of the net.
Tied at 1-1
entering the second half, the Cardinals scored the eventual
game-winning goal in the 65th minute when Stanke found
Steven Mackey for the tally.
Both teams would
finish with 12 total shots, as CUW goalkeeper Samuel Ische finished
with four saves in 90 minutes. North Central used a different
goalkeeper in each half, starting with Mike McEvoy and finishing
the game with Kyle DeRaedt. The two combined to make three saves on
the night.
The Falcons, still ranked eighth in the central region, fell to
9-4-3 overall and will look to bounce back in their regular-season
home finale on Wednesday against MSOE at 3pm. CUW is 6-1-2 at
Fitting Field this season, having lost just one game on the home
turf over the past two seasons.
