Concordia broke from a slim 43-42 halftime advantage
and eventually raced past the University of Dubuque 100-82 tonight
in the first round of the Carroll Classic.
"We just tried to
do too much in the first half and had players in foul trouble
early. We were much more efficient offensively in the second half,
finding the open man, hitting cutters, and making good decisions.
Our defense forced enough turnovers to disrupt their offense in key
stretches," said Coach Shawn Cassidy.
Edward Newton-Kemp was outstanding for CUW with a 30 point
performance that included 10-15 from the field, 6 of 8 from the
line, and 7 rebounds.
Mitchell Schneider (19); Cory Stark (15); and Luke Doedens (14)
all reached double figures.
The Falcons won the rebound battle 38-28 and forced Dubuque into 23
turnovers.
Mitch Michaelis led the losers with 27 points including a perfect
14-14 from the charity stripe.
Red-hot CUW shot 59% for the game while improving to 2-0. The
Falcons play Carroll at 3pm on Saturday.
