Eighth seeded Maranatha ended the regular season champion
Concordia's "Dream Season" with a stunning 4 game upset in the
quarterfinals of the NAC Volleyball Tournament last evening.
CUW, which came into the contest with a 23-7 record, could not
handle the attacks of the Crusader twin towers, Torey DeLozier and
Mary Lynn Strayer. Those two combined for 49 kills as Concordia
was outplayed at the net for one of the few times all season.
The Falcon first game domination (25-16) gave no hint of what
was to follow. CUW appeared to be in control in both games two and
four but Maranatha (18-12) came back from late 5 point deficits in
each to pull out victories in front of a stunned crowd.
Senior Stephanie Boehm had 25 kills to lead CUW in her final
collegiate match and fellow senior teammates Lydia Meaden and
Kelsey Lorenzen combined for 40 digs. Senior Tasha Strey had 15
assists.
Coach Joe Cawley's veteran team won the first outright
championship in school history this season.
