CUW ran out of time trying to erase a late 14 point deficit and
dropped a 70-66 decision at home to Benedictine on Saturday
evening.
The Falcons trailed just 37-33 at the break but the deficit grew
before Concordia's final gasp cut it to two points in the closing
seconds.
CUW was 13 down with 7:13 remaining when Edward Newton-Kemp went on
a personal 8 point tear to give the home team some hope.
Eventually Mitchell Schneider's long trey brought CUW within 68-66
with 12 seconds remaining but the Falcons fouled the wrong guy-
BU's Rob Bridgeman who calmly sank two free throws to seal the
Falcon fate.
Shawn Cassidy's team, which has shot so well in recent games, did
not have similar success on this night. Concordia hit 38% from the
field compared to the visitors' 51% marksmanship.
Newton-Kemp led CUW with 16 points but the stats showed a miserable
10 of 19 free throw performance to be one Falcon culprit.
Bridgeman was just about perfect for the victors, hitting 7 of 8
shots from the floor, plus all seven of his free throw
attempts.
Concordia (12-9 overall) dropped to 8-5 in the NAC North, still
good enough for first place in that tightly contested division.
