Skip Newton-Kemp's halftime buzzer beater gave Concordia their
first lead of the game (38-37) but it was all CUW in the second
half of an 87-64 home win over the Dominican Stars Saturday
evening.
Shawn Cassidy's troops had trouble with an aggressive DU defense
in the early-going and trailed by as much as 7 points. Reserve
Steve Zielinski's 6 point spurt got the Falcons within two just
before the break and then Kemp's shot ended the half - and began a
momentum shift that just kept building.
After that sluggish first twenty minutes, the confident hosts
hit 17 of 27 second half shots to pull gradually away, with the
final tally representing their biggest lead of the game.
Balanced scoring was one key as four Falcons hit for double
figures led by Luke Doeden's 17, and six other Concordia players
scored at least four points.
CUW remains undefeated in the NAC (6-0) and the high-flying
Falcons are 10-2 overall.
