MEQUON, Wis. -- Concordia Univeristy
Wisconsin was in control from the outset on the way to a one-sided
win, 84-50, over Aurora University on Saturday afternoon in the R.
John Buuck Field House.
Head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones' team broke to a 17-2
lead over the first eight minutes of play and was up 34-17 at the
half.
"We needed this game to get back on track and restore
our collective confidence," Brunner-Jones said. "It was great to
see so many players contribute positively and distribute the ball
so well. Everybody had some good minutes."
CUW (5-3, 5-1 NAC) deflated the Spartan will after the break,
stretching a 39-27 cushion with 17 minutes left to 60-36 by the 10
minute mark. And it was off to the races after that.
The host Falcons dominated in all categories; hitting
56 percent from the field to the Spartans 36 percent, outrebounding
the visitors by a 42-26 margin and knocking down 17-of-21 from the
free throw line as compared to 10-of-15 by AU.
Sophomore Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) was
effective inside and out, scoring a season-high 21 points and
hauling down six rebounds for CUW, in addition to dishing out three
assists. Junior Camille Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) added a season-high
nine points and a pair of assists in just 19 minutes of action.
Brunner-Jones' bench was outstanding as senior
Brittney Toles (South Beloit, Wis.) scored 11 points and freshman
Hayley Peppers (Franktown, Colo.) chipped in seven points. Seven
reserves scored points and added other positive statistics for
CUW.
AU (2-7, 1-4 NAC), on the other hand, did not have a single
player in double figures and leading scorer Megan Kohrt was held to
just three points by CUW's man-to-man pressure which forced
18 Spartans turnovers. Angela Smith and Rachel Rivera led the
visitors with eight points each.
The Falcons are off until Dec. 19th
when they host Concordia University Chicago in a 6:00 p.m. NAC
contest at home.
