Box Score: CUW 56, RC 50
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- Concordia
University Wisconsin never trailed host Rockford, opening up a
30-17 halftime lead before struggling to hold on for a 56-50
Northern Athletics Conference victory Saturday afternoon at the
Seaver Center.
The Falcons hit 12-of-26 first half shots in the process of
building the early double-figure advantage. CUW sophomore forward
Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) had 10 points prior to the break while
the Regents' leading scorer, Britney Curry was held to just two
points on 1-of-9 shooting by the stingy Falcons defense.
CUW (11-6, 11-2 NAC) went absolutely ice cold after intermission,
however, hitting only one of their first 13 shots and scoring just
four points in the first 11 minutes of the second session.
Fortunately for the Falcons, their defense held up as the Regents
(3-12, 2-8 NAC) never got closer than six points, 41-35, with 5:31
remaining and the final score on a layup at the buzzer.
Senior Brittney Toles (South Beloit, Ill.) and sophomore Camille
Parsons (Urbana. Ill.) were the second half heroes for head coach
Stacey Brunner-Jones' team. Both finished with 12 points and Toles
grabbed six of her team-high nine rebounds after halftime.
CUW was only 7-of-27 from the field after the break to finish at 36
percent for the game, but Falcon defenders held Rockford to 30
percent game-long shooting and Curry was just 5-of-19 for her
afternoon's work.
CUW heads to Edgewood College for a Tuesday 7:00 p.m. NAC matchup,
before the Concordia Invitational Tournament begins next Friday
evening at Concordia University Chicago.
