Falcon women soar past Lakeland 60-36

HOWARDS GROVE, Wis.-  Concordia Wisconsin (6-3/ 5-2 NAC) roared away from host Lakeland Saturday afternoon with a spectacular final twelve minutes, turning a tenuous 33-31 lead into a resounding 60-36 win.

CUW actually trailed 8-0 in the early going before managing a 24-17 cushion at the break.  LC rallied over the first eight minutes of the second half to get within two before the Falcons began a 27-5 run that ended mercifully with the final horn.

Junior Camille Parsons (Urbana, Ill.) was on fire for CUW in the second half, scoring 15 of her game-high 19 points and hitting all three of her 3-point attempts.  Back-back three pointers by Parsons turned a 35-31 margin into a 41-31 lead with 9:40 left and the rout was on.

Katie Luethe (Jr./ Oshkosh, Wis.) dominated the glass over the final twenty minutes, finishing with 15 rebounds.

Senior point guard Brittany Zietlow (Oak Creek, Wis.) took only four shots but dished out eight assists without commiting any turnovers.

Lakeland, which came into the contest tied for second with CUW, was led Leah Eisner with 12 points.  The Falcon defense held Becky Mayo to seven points although the talented forward grabbed 12 rebounds.

Concordia shot 44% from the field while holding the Muskies to an anemic 26%.

The focused Falcons also controlled the rebounds 41-34 and forced 14 turnovers while commiting only nine.

"We needed to respond like this after the disappointing showing at home last weekend," emphasized Coach Stacey Brunner-Jones.  "I am especially proud of our rebounding, passing, and overall effort on both ends of the court."

The Falcons face a non conference road test at UW La Crosse on Wednesday.
