Box Score: WLC 61, CUW 55
MILWAUKEE -- Wisconsin Lutheran College (23-4) advanced to
the Northern Athletics Conference championship game with a
hard-earned 61-55 win over Concordia University Wisconsin (16-11)
on Friday night.
Stacey Brunner-Jones' team trailed by 19 points in the first half,
before battling back to take the lead twice in the second half.
The Falcons were in arrears by
just 15-11 with 10 minutes remaining in the initial segment before
the Warriors (23-4) went on a 17-2 tear over the next five
minutes.
Concordia had already put a dent in
the huge early deficit by the break, however, having cut the margin
to 36-27 at halftime. WLC shot an impressive 59.3 percent from the
field over the first 20 minutes compared to CUW's 29.2 percent.
CUW kept chipping away at the margin in the second half and then
rattled off nine straight points on consecutive 3-pointers
by junior Tiffany Hendrickson (Ingleside, Ill.), Zietlow, and
sophomore Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) to turn a 48-42 deficit into
a 51-48 lead.
The Falcon's final lead came on a
pair of Brittany Zietlow (junior, Oak Creek, Wis.) free throws with
3:39 remaining to make it 55-54. Those charity tosses would be the
final points scored by the valiant Falcons who simply ran out of
gas down the stretch.
Luethe led the Falcons with 15 points, while Hendrickson and
Zietlow finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
