Box Score: WLC 64, CUW 58
MEQUON, Wis. - Concordia University Wisconsin was on the
verge of a Northern Athletics Conference upset before failing to
score over the final 6:58 of a women's basketball home defeat,
64-58, to Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday afternoon inside
the R. John Buuck Field House.
CUW took a nine-point lead off a Tiffany Hendrickson
3-pointer with 6:58 to play in the game before it went ice cold
down the stretch. The Falcons finished the game 0-for-8 from the
field and committed five turnovers, while WLC went on a 15-0 run to
remain atop the NAC North Division.
CUW had balanced scoring with four players in double
figures, but WLC used its athleticism and pressuring defense to
turn the game in its favor. The Warriors turned to Jenna Neuberger
and Shavon Dillon off the bench down the stretch as the two
combined for seven points, four rebounds and a pair of assists
during the Warriors scoring run.
Sophomore Katie Luethe (Oshkosh, Wis.) led the Falcons
with 14 points, while grabbing a game-high eight rebounds. Juniors
Tiffany Hendrickson (Ingleside, Ill.) and Brittany Zietlow
(Oshkosh, Wis.) each tallied 13 points. Senior Kendall Kerns
(Stoughton, Wis.) finished with 12 points and six rebounds for CUW
(14-9, 13-4 NAC).
Katelyn Kuehl led all scorers with 21 points on
7-of-10 shooting. She also stole a game-high five passes, grabbed
five rebounds and assists on three field goals. Neuberger added 10
points and seven rebounds off the bench. Dillon conclude the
victory with seven points, a game-high five assists and four
rebounds. Kristen Schultz chipped in nine points, grabbed five
rebounds and blocked a game-high three shots for WLC (18-4, 15-1
NAC).
The Warriors went to the paint for its scoring and
finished with a 28-12 advantage. WLC also relied on its bench for
production, finishing with a 23-6 edge in scoring by
non-starters.
CUW trailed for the majority of the opening half until
it went on a 12-5 scoring run to close out the period. The Falcons
went into the locker room at the intermission with a 35-29 lead
behind Kerns and Luethe who scored 10 points apiece.
WLC fought back in the beginning of the second half to
take a one-point lead, 39-38, less than four minutes into the final
20 minutes of play. CUW answered with three-straight jumpers and a
triple by Zietlow to retake the lead, 48-38, its largest of the
game.
The Falcons maintained a three possessions lead for
nearly seven minutes prior to going cold from the floor over the
final 6:58 on the loss.
CUW concludes the regular season portion of its
schedule on Saturday with a 2 p.m. NAC contest at Maranatha Baptist
Bible College. The game is the first part of a doubleheader with
the men's program.
