DALLAS, Texas. -
Concordia University Wisconsin's offense has been clicking on all
cylinders lately and Tuesday afternoon it was Matt Larsen's turn to
lead the charge with a career-high six goals as the Falcons scored
a 17-10 road win over the University of Dallas at Crusader Field in
non-conference action.
After CUW built a 3-1 lead in the
opening period, Larsen tallied three-consecutive goals in three
minutes and 18 seconds to give the Falcons an early 6-1 advantage
in the second quarter. CUW cruised to its second victory in as many
days behind a 44-27 shot advantage and a perfect 19-19 on clear
attempts.
Sophomore Danny Dahms (Calgary,
Alberta) jumped in on the scoring early, firing back-to-back shots
in the back of the net. He finished with five goals and was one of
six Falcons to score in the win. CUW also picked up
a program-record 51 ground balls.
Sophomore Sam Wladyka (Winnipeg,
Manitoba) led all players with a career-high five assists, while
sophomore Justin Krause (Hartland, Wis.) finished with three
assists and a game-high 11 ground balls, to go along with a
season-high 13 faceoffs won.
Chris Kerner and Frank Sporleder
finished with four and three goals, respectively, to lead UD (1-6).
Sporleder also picked up 10 ground balls and won 11 faceoffs.
Freshman Emmet O'Malley (Elk
Grove Village, Ill.) started in goal for the Falcons, giving up
just three goals in 30 minutes of action. Freshman Michael Rodgers
(Houston, Texas) was credited with the win after O'Malley left with
a 10-3 lead at the intermission.
CUW built its largest lead of the
season the third quarter when Wladyka found Larsen (freshman,
Gurnee, Ill.) for his sixth goal of the day to give the Falcons a
15-3 lead.
The Falcons blew the game open in
the middle quarters with a 27-13 shot advantage and a 9-for-9
effort on clears.
CUW (3-3) finished both
games of the Texas spring break road trip in the win column and
returns home for a Midwest Lacrosse Conference matchup against
Albion College on Saturday at 1 p.m. game at Fitting
Field.
