CLERMONT, Fla. - In what was their
fourth day of competition at the NTC Spring Games, the Concordia
University Wisconsin softball team split a pair of games on
Wednesday afternoon, defeating Kean University (N.J.) 5-2 before
losing to Western New England University (Mass.) 7-5.
Against Kean, CUW (4-8) won their second game since
arriving in Florida behind a dominant performance from sophomore
pitcher Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.), who threw a complete game to
go along with four strikeouts.
At the plate, the Falcons were led by freshman Jessica
Liszka (Lindenhurst, Ill.), who went 2-for-4 with two runs
scored.
In the day's second game against Western New England,
the Falcons found themselves in a 5-0 hole after three innings, but
rallied to tie the score at 5-5 heading into the seventh and final
inning of play.
That final inning would prove to be decisive, however,
as the Golden Bears scored twice in the top half of the seventh
before holding CUW scoreless in the bottom half.
Senior Sarah Cochran (Bloomington, Ill.) led the
Falcons at the plate by going 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Liszka
went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
CUW will have its fifth and final day of competition in
the Sunshine State on Thursday, when they'll face Tufts University
(Mass.) at 5 p.m. before taking on Colby College (Maine) at 7
p.m.
