WATERTOWN, Wis.- Just five weeks ago Maranatha (11-5) defeated CUW 52-50 on the Falcons' home court to take over first place in the NAC ... for a short while.
Tonight that game seemed an aberration as Stacey Brunner-Jones' team, 12-2 in the NAC, dismantled the Crusaders who fell to 8-5 in league play. The win was CUW's ninth in their last ten games.
Maranatha's largest lead was 9-4 in the early going before CUW pulled out to a 32-23 halftime margin by picking up the pace and rattling the hosts into numerous turnovers via double teaming efforts.
From that point on it was simply a matter of the final score being tallied as CUW built leads of 20 plus points before a mini MBBC surge.
Katie Luethe (Jr./ Oshkosh, Wis.) and Megan Coenen (Fr./ Pulaski, Wis.) were forces inside this time around with 19 and 15 points respectively. Luethe was 7-12 from the floor and grabbed eight rebounds.
The Falcons shot an impressive 50% from the floor while holding MBBC to 39%. The teams were evn on the boards 33-33 but Concordia defenders forced 17 turnovers.
"I was pleased with our defense and "Z" (Brittany Zietlow) really made us go," smiled Coach Brunner-Jones.
Autumn Peotter and Laci Peterson combined for 29 of Maranatha's points.
Concordia, 15-6 overall, hosts Rockford on Saturday at 2:00pm. Second place Alverno (9-4) is 2 1/2 games behind the Falcons.
