MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin celebrated its new courts on campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony prior to a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victories on Saturday during cool temperatures. The Falcons downed Concordia University Chicago, 9-0, before defeating Dominican University, 8-1.
It had been nearly a decade since CUW last had its own tennis courts on campus. Over the past few months six courts were built, along with 32 parking spaces, that the Falcons can call home.
CUW (5-1, 5-0 NACC) had little trouble against CUC, especially during singles play. The Falcons allowed five points during three doubles matches and just nine points during six singles matches. Sophomore Alisia Macioch (South St. Paul, Minn.) blanked her No. 6 singles opponent 6-0, 6-0 to help in victory. Freshman Hannah Tresedder (Kingsford, Mich.) and sophomore Jessica Sapp (Memphis, Mich.) each had 6-1, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
During the afternoon match against the Stars, the duo of sophomore Elizabeth Carroll (Hartford, Wis.) and freshman Sabine Jacobsen (Palatine, Ill.) gave CUW the moment heading into singles play with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Carroll paced the Falcons with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles, while a pair of her teammates won 6-2, 6-2. The most exciting singles match saw Macioch defeat her No. 6 opponent 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.
The Falcons now have four players on the roster with undefeated NACC singles records and the duo of McCormick and Wagner are unblemished in NACC doubles.
CUW returns to action on Tuesday for a NACC matchup at Alverno College, which is scheduled for 4 p.m.
