MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin had an opportunity to pull off a memorable upset on Sunday during the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference regular season finale against Edgewood College, but the Falcons fell short with a 6-3 loss.
Entering the matinee, a win would have secured at least a share of the NACC regular season title and possibly the No. 1 seed in the tournament, however, the Falcons secured the No. 2 seed in postseason play and a first round bye.
CUW (9-2, 9-1 NACC) lost for the first time this season in conference play and for the first time since its season opener. The Falcons began the match by holding a 2-1 advantage over the Eagles after doubles play and had the momentum entering singles competition.
The duo of senior Emily McCormick (Waukesha, Wis.) and sophomore Michaela Wagner (Oswego, Ill.) down their No. 3 doubles opponent 8-3, while freshmen Hannah Tresedder (Kingsford, Mich.) and Anna Shanks (Kingsford, Mich.) picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
EC (9-3, 9-0) showed why they have won 40-consecutive NACC regular season matches during singles play with victories in five of the six matches. The lone win for CUW was by sophomore Jessica Sapp (Memphis, Mich.) who defeated her No. 5 singles opponent 6-1, 6-3.
CUW will next play in spring on March 18 at Calvin College. Continue to visit CUWFalcons.com for updates to the Women's Tennis schedule.
