Women's Basketball efficient on both sides of the ball in win over Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Concordia University Wisconsin created havoc all day for Rockford University, which resulted in a convincing 71-42 victory on Saturday afternoon during Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play.

The Falcons forced 29 turnovers, with 13 of those coming by way of steal, and converted those errors into 25 points. They also were efficient on the offense end with 21 assists on 26 field goals, while the bench played an important role in the win by outscoring the Regents reserves, 28-12.

"We didn't start off well offensively in the second half, but I was happy that our offense didn't affect our defense," head coach Stacey Brunner-Jones said. "Shooting well is always helpful and I was more impressed our ability to pass the ball and cut off passing lanes. This was the first of three-straight road games and consistency is key to winning the next two."

Junior Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) again led the Falcons offense with 19 points, including a career-high-tying five 3-pointers, which was one shy of tying the program's single game record. She finished 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) from downtown, which set the program's single game record.

CUW used a 12-0 scoring run during a three minute and 38 second span early in the game to take over the ball game and never look back. Their lead dipped to 14 points in the second half before reaching a game-high 30 points after freshman Elizabeth Hafemann (Hales Corner, Wis.) made a layup with 1:21 to play. The game featured 12 Falcons in the scoring column and 14 receiving game action.

Freshman Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) led the bench efforts with 12 points, nine rebounds, two assists, three blocks and a career-best three steals. Junior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) added six points, nine rebounds (six offensive) and two assists. Freshman Audrey Scharmer (Winona, Minn.) scored nine points, while sophomore Taylor DeLong had four points, nine rebounds (four offensive) and two assists. Freshman Corrina Terrano (Phoenix, Ariz.) stole a career-best five passes.

Diamond Williams led the Regents (3-13, 2-9 NACC) with 16 points, five rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block. Katie Clark tallied 10 points and Mallorie Getzelman scored seven points.

There were two scoring ties and three lead changes in the first four minutes and 51 seconds of the game before the Falcons showed why they are near the top of the NACC standings. They ended the half by outscoring the hosts 28-13. In the opening 20 minutes, CUW forced 15 turnovers and scored 15 points off those errors.

During the second half, the Falcons scored 18 points in the paint and their bench added 15 points. CUW ended the game with a 12-3 lead in second chance points and a 32-22 lead in points in the paint. The road victory is the first of three-consecutive over the next six games.

CUW (12-3, 9-3 NACC) returns to action on Tuesday at Edgewood College at 7 p.m.
