Dominican edges Men's Soccer in NACC Tournament semis

MEQUON, Wis. – It seems whenever Concordia University Wisconsin and Dominican University meet in men's soccer action, the matchup will also come down to the wire. That was again the case Tuesday in the NACC Tournament Semifinals, but unfortunately for the Falcons, Dominican got the upper hand in a 3-2 contest. The loss eliminates the Falcons from the NACC Tournament, while Dominican advances to the league title game.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: Dominican 3, Concordia Wisconsin 2
- Location: Fitting Field – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 15-3-1, Dominican 12-4-3

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Falcons came out rolling as they dominated possession early on and netted the first goal 2:27 into play. Senior Diego Campos (Milwaukee, Wis.) started the play with a pass to the corner to senior Keegan Van Dusseldorp (Burlington, Wis.), who then found junior Jordan Moehn (Fond du Lac, Wis.) in front for the score. It was Moehn's ninth goal of the season.

- Dominican would tie the game late in the first half when Adam Yaghmour netted his sixth of the season. The Stars had a couple shots stopped by senior Alec Brew (Appleton, Wis.), but Yaghmour eventually got a rebound chance to go in for the 1-1 tie.

- The Stars would take a 2-1 lead in the 64th minute as Jonathan Ramos had a run down the right side and was able to have a wide open net for the one-goal lead. Iven Hernandez had the assist on the second Stars goal.

- Just under three minutes later junior Justin Clayton (Crete, Ill.) tied the match back up at 2-2 with his third goal of the season. Clayton chipped it over the keeper and into the top left corner of the goal for the tie.

- Dominican would gain the last goal of the match, the game-winning score coming from Jonathan Arzeta, his sixth of the year. Zack Venzon started the play on a free kick, sending it the way of Alex Rohder who had one touch to Arzeta for the score.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The goals allowed were the Falcons first goals given up since October 3. CUW had posted seven straight shutouts dating back to the October 3 contest against Aurora.

- The Falcons were also down a starting defender as freshman center back Gavin Falotico (Palatine, Ill.) was sidelined.

- The 15 wins this season for the Falcons were the most since the 2004 season. CUW has won 15 or more contests six times under head coach Tom Saleska.

UP NEXT

- CUW is regionally ranked and therefore, could still be a potential at-large candidate for the NCAA Tournament. The Falcons do have 15 wins this season, a regular season conference championship, and a win over a nationally ranked (UW-Whitewater) opponent.
