Women's Hockey falls in NCHA opener at St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team suffered a 4-1 setback in its NCHA opener Tuesday night at St. Norbert. The Green Knights built a 3-0 lead early in the second period en route to the three-goal victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- St. Norbert got on the board just 2:32 into action when Reaghan Chadwick netted the goal. The Chadwick score was the only goal of the opening 20 minutes.

- The Green Knights would score twice in the opening 4:12 of the second stanza, building a 3-0 lead. Lauren Roethlisberger and Myranda Hayes scored the two goals for St. Norbert, just 47 second apart from one another.

- The Falcons lone tally came just about midway through the second as junior Nicole Krumwiede (Itasca, Ill.) scored her first goal of the season. Freshmen Kristen Kennedy (London, Ontario) picked up her first career collegiate point by assisting on the Falcons score.

- SNC would make the final 4-1 in the third on a power play score from Jessica Sherman. St. Norbert finished the night 1-for-3 with the extra skater, while the Falcons were 0-for-3 on the power play.

- The Green Knights received a 24-save performance from Briana Kelly, while the Falcons got 26 stops from sophomore Allison Kurek (Chicago, Ill.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons dropped to 4-4-1 in conference openers with the loss being the first league-opening setback since the 2009-10 season.

- CUW has struggled in road games in De Pere, falling to 0-6-1 in games at St. Norbert. The Falcons do own a 2-3-1 home record against the Green Knights.

UP NEXT

- CUW will return to action Sunday with another NCHA matchup at Adrian. The Bulldogs, who are ranked second nationally, and Falcons are set for a 3 p.m. EST puck drop.
