Men's Lacrosse defeats Cornell in final tuneup before MLC Tournament

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Concordia University Wisconsin overwhelmed Cornell College over the final 45 minutes of play on Saturday afternoon during a 15-6 Midwest Lacrosse Conference victory to end the regular season.

CUW broke a 3-3 tie minutes into the second quarter with seven-consecutive goals to take a commanding lead. The Falcons scored five of the last seven goals to run away with the game. In their last four victories they have scored over four times as many goals as the opposition (78-17).

The game was littered with penalties (14 in all for 11 total minutes) and neither team was successful with a man advantage. CUW finished 1-of-5 and Cornell was 1-of-7. It didn't matter though, as the Falcons overpowered the first-year Rams by outshooting them 26-13 on goal and clearing 18-of-21 attempts.

Senior David Mueller (Prior Lake, Minn.) led all players with a career-high five goals, while sophomore Colin Raley (Inverness, Ill.) had four goals, including the game-winner (fourth of the season) which set the program's single season record. As well, junior Mark Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) had a career game with four points (two goals, two assists). Wilson and junior Danny Bundra (Lake Zurich, Ill.) each picked up six ground balls.

Junior Thomas Mueller (Prior Lake, Minn.) earned the victory after making six saves in 53 minutes and 38 seconds of action, while his counterpart Evan Kedjidjian had 11 saves.

Michael Paquette led the Rams (3-10, 1-5 MLC) with a trio of goals and Carlos Siguenza scored twice. Hank Guzman and Siguenza each picked up a team-best five ground balls, while Tory Terbilcox caused a game-high three turnovers.

The game was also the final tuneup for the Falcons before playing the MLC Tournament semifinals on Wednesday at Benedictine at 7 pm. They previously fell to the Eagles, 8-7, at home on a goal with a minute to play on April 1.
