HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening period thanks to goals from Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.). Machuga put CUW up 1-0 10:30 into play on a goal assisted by freshman Jossa Danis (Brandon, Manitoba) and junior Brittany Sticha (Londsale, Minn.).

- Holman would make the score 2-0 late in the first period on a goal which extended her points streak to nine games. Her power play goal, which came with 44 seconds remaining in the first stanza, was assisted by junior Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) and freshman Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.).

- Machuga would add her second goal of the game 15:42 into the second period, as she scored the second power play goal of the contest for the Falcons. This score was assisted by both Holman and Metanova, pushing the Falcons lead to 3-0.

- Marian would score its lone goal with 2:14 remaining in the second stanza. Alexis Peterson had the score for the Sabres.

- Holman and junior Baylee Darling (Holmen, Wis.) would add empty-net goals in the final minutes of play to give the Falcons the 5-1 win. Metanova and senior Chelsea Regan (Oakdale, Minn.) assisted on the Holman score, while senior Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) and junior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) helped on the Darling goal.

- Freshman Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) picked up her fourth win of the season with an impressive 28-save effort. The Falcons were outshot 29-24 on Wednesday, but Pattengales strong saves, 21 of those coming in the first 40 minutes, helped CUW to the conference win.

- CUW converted on 2-of-5 power play chances in the game, while holding Marian scoreless on two power plays.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Holman has now recorded a point in nine straight games. The CUW record for consecutive games with a point is 12, that coming from Jamie Athens in the 2009-10 season.

- Metanova and Machuga both have 55 career points after the strong games on Wednesday. The two forwards are tied for 7th on the career points list for CUW.

- In two games against Marian this season, CUW has scored five power play goals. The Falcons were 3-for-7 in a November 10 showdown and went 2-for-5 on Wednesday night.

UP NEXT
