Volleyball outlasts Dominican in gritty performance

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin dug deep and proved why it is worthy of leading the NACC standings following a 3-2 (25-18, 25-27, 23-25, 25-21, 16-14) victory over Dominican on Saturday night inside the R. John Buuck Field House. The Falcons improved to 8-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons made it look somewhat easy in the opening set, winning 25-18. However, the Stars had plans of their own by taking sets two and three to make things interesting. Concordia Wisconsin was resilient and displayed a toughness when tested and earned a fourth set win to extend the match the distance.
- The hosts extended their lead to 14-9 and had match point several times, but Dominican didn't go away and tied the frame at 14-14. The final two points ended in favor of the Falcons after the Stars committed attack errors.
- Concordia Wisconsin remains atop the NACC standings with an 8-0 record, which is a game ahead of Aurora and two in front of Edgewood and Dominican.
- The Falcons were balanced on offense with four players recording double-figure kills. Junior Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) led all players with a career-high 19 kills, to go along with 16 digs and three block assists.
- Freshman Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) tallied a career-best 14 kills, to go along with 10 digs for her second double-double of the season. Juniors Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) had 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
- Senior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) ended the victory with 29 assists and 13 digs, while sophomore Mackenzie Wockenfus (Appleton, Wis.) tallied a career-best 26 assists and 10 digs.
- Nevinski led the defensive efforts at the net with five block assists. Moegenburg had three block assists and sophomore Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) and freshman Kendall Stribling (Greenfield, Wis.) each had a pair of block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It was just the fourth five-set match this season for Concordia Wisconsin and its first win by a 3-2 score since September 9.
- An area the Falcons could improve upon is serving, as they had 17 service errors.
- Concordia Wisconsin hit .382 (16K-3E-34A) in the opening set and posted a .194 attack percentage in the match.
- The Falcons 70 kills and 67 assists both set a program single-match record (also new five-set benchmarks).
- Casper assisted on nine kills, which is a new career high.
- Freshman Ariana Richmond (South Elgin, Ill.) dug a season-high 11 attack attempts.
- Zymanek set a new career best for attack percentage in a match, hitting .364 (11K-3E-22A).

THE OPPOSITION
- Rosalyn Wyse led the Stars with 15 kills and 19 digs, to go along with two assists and three block assists. Kendyl Todd added 12 kills and five block assists.
- Jackie Mursuli led all players with 30 assists and Audrey Wyse dug a match-best 23 attack attempts.
