St. Scholastica holds off Women's Hockey in NCHA battle

MEQUON, Wis. – In a physical, low-scoring affair on Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center, the St. Scholastica Saints held off the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Hockey team by a 1-0 final. CSS used a first period power play goal to edge the Falcons, likely eliminating CUW from Slaats Cup Playoff contention.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: St. Scholastica 1, Concordia Wisconsin 0
- Location: Ozaukee Ice Center – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 8-14-1, 6-11-0 NCHA, St. Scholastica 7-13-1, 6-8-1 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both goaltenders were outstanding as the Falcons received a 26-save performance from freshman Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.). Pattengale had 13 of those stops in the second period and kept the Falcons in it throughout.

- The Saints received a 25-save effort from Lindsey Hartfiel. She had 12 of those in the final 20 minutes of play as CUW controlled possession throughout most of the third period.

- Kennedy Houge had the lone goal of the evening, scoring on the power play 12:16 into the contest. Mac Johnson assisted on the game-winner.

- The game featured plenty of physical play, but both teams were allowed to play, totaling just 14 penalty minutes between the two squads. The Falcons had a pair of power play chances in the third period and had several strong scoring chances, but the Saints defense prevailed.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The loss likely eliminates CUW from Slaats Cup Playoff contention. The Falcons now trail CSS by a point for the fourth and final playoff spot, but the Saints have two more league games remaining after tomorrow's series finale. St. Scholastica will play winless Finlandia for two NCHA games next weekend.

- The shutout also snapped the school record point streak of sophomore Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.). Holman recorded a point in 14 straight games entering play Friday.

UP NEXT
- Tomorrow will conclude the two-game set between these two teams and will also be Senior Day at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Six seniors (Lexi Machuga, Katherine Pauletti, Hannah Zobel, Chelsea Regan, Jayda Hoerres and Nina Puch) will be honored while playing in their final home games as Falcons. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
