Women's Basketball grinds out victory over Alverno

MEQUON, Wis. – Alverno overcame a double-figure deficit in the third quarter, but Concordia Wisconsin responded with an 18-7 scoring run to regain control during a hard-fought 70-58 victory on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENEND
- CUW charged out a 17-8 lead after one quarter of play and continued to lead until owning a 31-24 advantage at halftime. Alverno's adjustments at halftime led to a 10-2 scoring run during the first four minutes and 13 seconds of the third quarter to take a one-point lead, 34-33.
- The Falcons buckled down and put together a 21-10 scoring run over the remainder of the third period to regain all the momentum. In the third quarter they shot 60 percent on 9-of-15 shooting.
- CUW ended the game shooting 47.5 percent (29-of-61) and its bench tallied 31 poitns.
- Sophomore Brianna Wagner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, to go along with two assists, two steals and two blocks.
- Junior Samantha Blissett (Springfield, Ill.) and sophomore Katelyn Sewall (Menasha, Wis.) each had 10 points. Blissett also had six rebounds and a career-high-tying six assists. Senior Megan Coenen (Green Bay, Wis.) ended with nine points, nine rebounds and two steals.
- Senior Madelyn Landgraf (Elkhart Lake, Wis.) recorded eight points and six assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The victory keeps the Falcons tied atop the NACC standings with Wisconsin Lutheran. The two teams will square off on Wednesday at 7 pm.
- The Falcons host 87.5 percent (7-of-8) from the free throw line.
- CUW turned the ball over just 12 times, its lowest total in the past eight games.

THE OPPOSITION
- Mackenzie Mathies and Katelyn Bartlett led all players with 16 points apiece. Mathies drained three 3-pointers and Bartlett was 7-of-11 from the field.
- Brooke McBain added eight points and Gabby Hood finished with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.

NEXT ON THE SCHEDULE
- The Falcons host Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday at 7 pm inside the R. John Buuck Field House in a showdown of the top two teams in the NACC.
