KINGS POINT, N.Y. – Statistics were even across the box score, but the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was able to find the back fo the net a few more times during a 9-5 non-conference win over Concordia Wisconsin. The Falcons had a four-game winning streak entering the matchup on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Half of the games scoring was done in the opening quarter, but the Mariners controlled the final 45 minutes of play on the scoreboard. USMMA scored the only goal in the second period and two more in the third quarter to build a 7-4 lead. The hosts then added two scores in the fourth, which was too much to overcome for the Falcons.
- Senior Matt Garvey (Winnipeg, Manitoba) put the Falcons on the scoreboard first less than a minute-and-a-half into the game and junior Colin Raley (Inverness, Ill.) scored with 5:34 left in the first period to tie the game at 2-2. Freshman Eric Carrolan (Pleasanton, Calif.) scored a goal of his own to knot things at 3-3 with 50 seconds left in the first stanza, but USMMA found the back of the net with five seconds left to take a one-goal lead.
- The Mariners scored the only goal in the second quarter and added another midway through the third period to lead 6-3. The Falcons' senior Mark Wilson (Calgary, Alberta) scored a marker with a 1:30 left in the third period, but USMMA added a goal with 38 seconds left in the third.
- During the first 45 minutes of play USMMA's Pat Coll scored four the team's seven goals.
- USMMA's Dan McGovern scored with just over five minutes to play in the fourth to give the hosts the largest lead of the game, 8-4. Freshman Stephen Gregory (Louisville, Ky.) recorded his only goal of the game with two-and-a-half minutes to play, but the Mariners answered 29 seconds later.
- Four different Falcons scored a goal, while Garvey assisted on half of those tallies. Raley also had an assist.
- Freshman Garrett Wohlford (Rochester, Minn.) made 12 saves in goal and picked up a game-high six ground balls. Carrolan and sophomore Paul Fisher (Calgary, Alberta) also picked up five ground balls.
- Carrolan, Fisher and senior Justin Herold (Winnipeg, Manitoba) each caused a pair of turnovers.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The start of the game was delayed nearly 45 minutes due to inclement weather, which included lightning.
- CUW converted 16-of-18 clears and was perfect in all but the second quarter, which included 6-of-6 in the final period.
- Wohlford and Carrolan's ground ball totals were both career highs.
THE OPPOSITION
- Patt Coll led USMMA with four goals, while Jack Renard and Mike Rodriquez added two goals each.
- Charley Hughes picked up a team-high five ground balls and Coll caused two turnvoers.
- Hughes finished the game winning 11-of-18 faceoffs.
- Goalkeeper Kevin Young made 12 saves in a complete game winning effort.
