PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The No. 8-ranked Pioneers proved to be too much for the Falcons on Friday night in the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament. Wisconsin-Platteville advanced with an 86-74 victory.
The Falcons jumped out to an early 14-9 lead on Friday. Junior Joey Zietlow (Oak Creek, Wis.) had eight of the Falcons' first 14 points.
The Pioneers were able to chip away at the CUW lead and took a 40-29 into halftime.
Platteville pushed the lead up to 14 points at the 10:42 mark of the second half.
The Falcons did not fold and cut the UWP lead to five points after a pair three-point baskets from sophomore Jared Jurss (Sheboygan, Wis.).
All five started reached double-digit points on Friday. Joey Zietlow led the flock with 20 points.
Jared Jurss added 17 points on the evening. Junior Jordan Johnson (Cedarburg, Wis.) ended with 13 points and a team-high seven assists and three steals. Sophomore Brandon Keller (Plymouth, Wis.) collected a team-high seven rebounds and two blocks, with 13 points.
The Falcons closed the year with a 19-10 mark.
