MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's tennis team fell short in a battle for the top spot in the NACC. The Eagles took the match with a 5-4 victory to hand the Falcons their first loss of the season.
Edgewood scored first on Friday afternoon with victories at No. 1 and 2 doubles.
The lone doubles point came on court three with senior Elizabeth Johnson (Hubertus, Wis.) and sophomore Mallory Moen (Neenah, Wis.) collecting an 8-3 victory.
The Eagles won the next three points to clinch the match.
Sophomore Ashley Samuta (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) secured the first singles point for CUW with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Alyssa Carew at No. 2 singles.
Mallory Moen rallied for a 1-6, 7-6, 1-0 victory over Ellie Murphy at No. 4 singles.
At No. 6 singles, freshman Maya Kunze (Stevens Point, Wis.) defeated Alina Tweet, 6-2, 7-6.
The Falcons close the fall season on Saturday at Concordia Wisconsin.
CUW would have clinched at least a share of the NACC title with a victory on Friday.
