MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW esports team is nearing postseason play, and teams are getting ready for the next level of competition they will face in the playoffs.
To begin the week, the Overwatch team took a 0-3 loss against Texas-San Antonio. The game scores of the matchup were 0-1, 1-2, and 1-2. They mounted a comeback in a heated, rivalry matchup with the Concordia Nebraska Bulldogs on Thursday. This matchup featured a lot of back and forth between the team, but ended with a 2-1 win for the Falcons. In the NECC League, the Falcons improved their record to 5-1 with game scores of 2-1, 4-3, and 3-4.
As always, the Falcons came out of the week with a forfeit win. However, this week featured two. Both the Rainbow 6 Siege team as well as the League of Legends team were recipients of a forfeit win from Pittsburg State as well as Butler.
The newly formed Valorant team experienced some more growing pains when they took a 0-2 loss to Wake Forest. This loss continues their slump, brining their season record to 1-6. This Falcons were led in the matchup by sophomore Adam Hedman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) with 35 eliminations and four assists. Freshman William Partain (Springfield, Va.) added eight assists and 17 eliminations to the team total 113.
In the upcoming week, some key matchups are in store for the Falcons. First on the docket, the Rocket League team is coming off of its first loss of the season. They look to bounce back in a matchup with Fresno State. This one has big implications for the META rankings with the winner clinching the number one seed in the tournament.
Entering the final week of the season, the Smash team is still working with a perfect season and looks to go into the playoffs with that streak still alive in their matchup with Texas-San Antonio. The Texas team is the highest ranked opponent that the team has faced yet, so it is a perfect look into the playoff competition level coming up.
The League of Legends team is working through some scheduling issues, but is entering this week's matchup with a three-game winning streak. A win against Johnson and Wales could move the Falcons to the top of the NECC standings.
