Men's Hockey Skates Marian to Draw

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team opened up home ice play against Marian.

In this high-scoring affair, the Falcons struck first in the fifth minute with a goal from sophomore Jordan Guiney (Victoria, B.C.) off the stick of junior Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.).

The Falcons gave up the tying goal in the fifth minute of the second period but regained the lead two minutes later off the stick of senior Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.) with a helper from Colton Schell, a freshman from Lampman, Saskatchewan.

The Falcons scored two more goals in the second period to extend their lead from freshman Justin Schwartzmiller (Fond du Lac, Wis.) with assists from Way and freshman Joshua Maine (Tecumseh, Ont.) and a second from sophomore Tyler Pang (Victoria, B.C.) with an assist from senior Jacob Palmerio (Salut Ste. Marie, Ont.).

Marian scored three unanswered goals at the end of the second period to go into the second intermission tied at four.

The Falcons came out in the seventh minute of the third period with a goal from Main and assists from Way and sophomore Michael Makarenko (Calgary, Alta.).  Marian tied the game in the 12th minute to force overtime.  There was no scoring in the overtime period, so the game went into a three-man shootout for the points.

Marian drew first blood and followed it by two saves from their goalie to force a score or go home, sudden-death shot.  Maine netted the third Falcon shot forcing extra shooters.  The Sabres scored on their fifth man taking the points from the drawn game.

The Falcons head to Marian on Saturday to finish off the series.
